The Yellow Mustang on Florencia

EN·001 · El Sitio

At five in the morning, Bernardo was still driving around the Zona Rosa. He had looked and looked again at all the boys standing on the corners, waiting. None of them was quite the one: the boy who had suddenly appeared at five forty-three, beneath a streetlamp, scribbling in a purple notebook with an indifferent expression.

The yellow Mustang stopped in front of Isaac. When he saw it, the boy smiled with a kind of shared flirtatiousness. It was clear this was not the first time they had seen each other.

—Come closer, please —Bernardo ordered.

As though indulging a difficult customer, Isaac approached the window as it finished rolling down. He leaned against it indifferently.

—Get in.

—Are you trying to seduce me? —Isaac asked provocatively.

Bernardo looked at him gravely.

—You have to come with me.

—Where?

—To Cuetzalan.

—Why?

—They are accusing you of murder, Isaac.

Isaac, Bernardo’s brother, got into the yellow Mustang. As the car drove along Florencia toward the Ángel de Reforma, he saw in the rearview mirror another boy exactly like him, who at that very moment was getting into another yellow Mustang.

This had happened throughout all eternity.
